Here are some of the foods that can boost your milk supply.

  • Oatmeal
    Oatmeal is one of the top foods which boosts milk production. Most breastfeeding mums(mums/moms-use one) have seen the magical benefits of this versatile food rich in energy and fibre. It is very easy to make for both working moms and stay at home moms.
    To give an extra nutrition boost add nutrient-based toppings like chia seeds and fresh fruits.
  • Chickpeas
    Chickpea boosts milk secretion. It is rich in protein, calcium, fibre and vitamin B complex which supports lactation. To get best out of chickpea(s) you can, either add coconut milk or mash with potatoes and munch it with any vegetable salad.
Eat a balanced diet at all times.
  • Sweet potato
    Do not under estimate the power of sweet potato in boosting milk flow. Sweet potatoes are super rich in potassium that helps fight fatigue. It also contains fibre, Vitamin B and C. Sweet potato can be taken as a morning snack, dessert, or as preferred.
  • Water and juices
    As a breastfeeding mom staying hydrated is very important. Drinking water replaces the fluid lost during breastfeeding. Normalize drinking water before nursing the baby or when you are thirsty.
    Remember, being dehydrated limits production of milk. You can always substitute water with food rich in water like vegetables and fruits.
  • Spinach
    Spinach contains high level of iron. High iron levels increases the supply of milk flow while low iron levels decreases milk flow. You can also increase your iron intake by taking red meat, leafy greens and beans.
    It is very important to note that to increase your milk flow, you should eat plenty of colorful vegetables, healthy fats, whole grains and protein rich foods. This means taking a healthy balanced diet.
